Colleville-sur-Mer

This is the slope leading down from where the monument is placed (the site of the German encampments) to the beach. On 6 June 1944, the attacking forces not only had to make it across the heavily-defended beachland, but then had to climb these hills, attacking straight into the fire from the German defensive positions at the top.
