Mont St. Michel, from a distance
| Mont St. Michel is a quasi-island perched a few hundred meters off the coast of France. During low tide, it's separated from the mainland by sand (with pockets of quicksand, apparently) and tidepools, but when the tide comes in the only land access is via an elevated roadway. We happened to be visiting during a time of particularly high tides--so high, in fact, that they swept in over the parking lot and would have carried off the parked cars if there had been any remaining. Quite an impressive sight. |
